Dental Crowns in Hartford, CT
We offer many solutions for improving and restoring your smile, regardless of your dental problem. At JP Dental, our professional goal is to provide you and your family with
outstanding dental care that fits your needs, your lifestyle, and your budget.
Our skilled doctors will explain your options, discuss your concerns, and work with you so you can make an informed decision. In many cases, a porcelain dental crown is an excellent option for restoring a tooth's health, appearance, and function.
We use state-of-the-art zirconia crowns that are strong, look completely natural, and will last for many years. It’s not unusual for a crown to last as long as 10 to 20 years with proper oral care.
Many Uses for Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are a widely used restoration placed over a weakened tooth to strengthen and protect it from further damage. A well-made dental crown functions just like a natural tooth, restoring your ability to speak and chew normally.
Dental crowns have proven to be effective in a number of cases:
- Providing support and protection for a tooth after root canal treatment
- Restoring dental implants
- Reinforcing a tooth weakened by grinding or clenching
Since crowns are designed to completely surround a natural tooth, they are also an excellent choice for addressing certain cosmetic flaws, like hiding a tooth that is severely discolored and cannot be whitened.
Placing a Dental Crown
Placing a crown at JP Dental usually requires two visits. First, we’ll take digital X-rays to identify any underlying problems that should be addressed before we apply the crown. Dr. Paul Chung or Dr. Jill Park will then prepare the natural tooth to receive the new crown. We’ll gently numb the mouth before we begin to ensure that the entire process is comfortable and pain-free.
Next, we’ll take impressions that will be used to create a precise mold of your tooth. We then send the mold to a local dental lab where the crown will be designed to our exact specifications. While waiting for your new crown to be fabricated, you'll wear a temporary crown that will protect your tooth and restore function.
After a few weeks, your new crown will be ready and you will return to our office for final placement. The temporary crown will be removed and we'll adjust the new crown to ensure a perfect fit. When we're sure that you're happy with the shape and fit of your new crown, we’ll cement it securely in place.

Frequently Asked Questions
A live tooth can sense pressure when biting down. When pressure is felt, the nerve in the tooth sends a signal to the brain to open the mouth to prevent breaking the tooth.
Once a tooth gets a root canal, there is no nerve ending. No nerve means no means of sensing the pressure.
This is why in our dental office in Hartford CT we often see patient coming in with broken tooth that already had a root canal treatment done and broken. If the patient is lucky enough, we can save the tooth. But oftentimes, we pull the tooth out because the tooth is hopeless due to large fracture.
It is very important to follow through till the end. When you get a root canal treatment done, you need to make sure you go through the 3 steps of root canal treatment, build up or post and core, and finally the crown. By receiving the crown, you can chew on hard food without fear of breaking the tooth.
