Our skilled doctors will explain your options, discuss your concerns, and work with you so you can make an informed decision. In many cases, a porcelain dental crown is an excellent option for restoring a tooth's health, appearance, and function.

We use state-of-the-art zirconia crowns that are strong, look completely natural, and will last for many years. It’s not unusual for a crown to last as long as 10 to 20 years with proper oral care.

Many Uses for Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are a widely used restoration placed over a weakened tooth to strengthen and protect it from further damage. A well-made dental crown functions just like a natural tooth, restoring your ability to speak and chew normally.

Dental crowns have proven to be effective in a number of cases:

  • Providing support and protection for a tooth after root canal treatment
  • Restoring dental implants
  • Reinforcing a tooth weakened by grinding or clenching

Since crowns are designed to completely surround a natural tooth, they are also an excellent choice for addressing certain cosmetic flaws, like hiding a tooth that is severely discolored and cannot be whitened.

Placing a Dental Crown

First, we’ll take digital x-rays to identify any underlying problems that should be addressed before we apply the crown. Dr. Paul Chung or Dr. Jill Park will then prepare the natural tooth to receive the new crown. We’ll gently numb the mouth before we begin to ensure that the entire process is comfortable and pain-free.

Next, we’ll take impressions that will be used to create a precise mold of your tooth. We then send the mold to a local dental lab where the crown will be designed to our exact specifications. While waiting for your new crown to be fabricated, you'll wear a temporary crown that will protect your tooth and restore function.

After a few weeks, your new crown will be ready and you will return to our office for final placement. The temporary crown will be removed and we'll adjust the new crown to ensure a perfect fit. When we're sure that you're happy with the shape and fit of your new crown, we’ll cement it securely in place.
